The Fishbourne Trophy 2014 (by Brian Shipman)

The Fishbourne trophy was conducted this year in conditions which were far from ideal. Rain and a lower temperature than we have come to expect from this year’s exceptional summer.

Our grand scorer Ena Uwins did us proud and to her we must send special thanks sitting beneath her brolly beneath the awning while the rest of us enjoyed ourselves despite the weather. Could not have been comfortable or warm.

There were 15 contestants and as usual for this event after the seeded first round the event took on it’s own momentum. The lower handicap player, as usual failed to sweep the board and this is what is intended in this end of the season fun event.

The newcomers who at the start were somewhat apprehensive soon got the hang of it as the results show. The clear winner was Peter Raper who won all five of his games against opponents of various handicaps. Well Done Peter. Second was Maggie who despite being a newish member did very well against all comers. Joyce and I were equal third.

Jean Frith presented the winner with the “Fishbourne Trophy“.

Footnote from Linda
Congratulations to Peter Raper who won the final tournament of the club season on Saturday.
A good turn out despite the rather wet and chilly day and a big thank you to Brian Shipman for organising what’s always a fun day.
Linda.
