Sunday, 7 August – David’s “solo” at Guildford and Godalming

David was one of 16 entrants in the B-series competition on Sat 6th August, a Regional Croquet Association Tournament for players with Handicaps 3 to 5, from clubs including Sussex County, Cheltenham  Surbiton, Cheam and Guildford. It was held at Guildford and Godalming Croquet Club, which has 4 lawns, in glorious weather.

David continued:

“We were in 4 groups in the morning, playing 3 matches against the other group members. I won two, both on the golden hoop, 7-6, 7-6 then lost the last, again on the golden hoop, 6-7 !!! So, as 2nd in my group, I entered the knockout stages in the afternoon. I won the quarter final 7-5, against a Lodsworth player, then won the semi-final 7-4 against a Reigate player, with a spectacular in-off shot from 5 yds!”

“The final was played at 6.15pm (it was a long, hot day!) against Martin Bulger of Aldermaston, and I prevailed 7-3, winning the Mare Cup. This was named by the tournament organiser, Mike Huxley, 9 yrs ago, using the initials of him, his wife & children…!”
