New Season Preparations

Hello all.

We’ve had fabulous weather over the last few days and everyone wants to know when the lawns will be ready for play again.

The new groundsman, Rupert, made some fantastic improvements to the grass last year but the ground is still soggy and spongy and he has been unable to do the first cut until today.  Even if we don’t get much more rain in the next few weeks it will still take a while to get the grass sorted and for the ground firm enough to play on.

Paul is planning to mark out the hoop holes over Easter but that’s no guarantee we’ll be able to play. We don’t want to undo the progress we’ve made with the grass by trampling it into mud!

All things being equal it’s unlikely we’ll be playing before the AGM on 10th April but we will keep it under review and let everybody know if that changes.

Spring Cleaning Days

Meanwhile, we are making progress on plans for a new shed and planning two spring cleaning days so please come along on 23rd and 30th of April to help tidy up the Club-House and the courts.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again at the AGM and wishing everyone a good croquet season.

Fishbourne Trophy Results

The results are in.

The weather turned out cool but sunny and twenty participants all played five rounds of our very own version of croquet, “The Fishbourne Game”.

The result was in doubt until Joan Simms took the final hoop of the day to win three of her five games with a total hoop score of 11. Joyce Parkin also won three games and was declared runner-up with 10 hoops.

Thank you Brian, for organising the competition and presenting the trophy to Joan, who now has her name on it for the second time in five years. It was great to see such a large turn out for the last tournament of the year.

The Fishbourne Game 2015

Just a quick post to remind everyone about the final club tournament of the year. We have 20 players lined up to take part in our very own Fishbourne Game on Sunday, competing for the “Fishbourne” Trophy.  This is the fifth year of the competition which will be managed by Brian Shipman who sponsored the trophy.

The action starts at 10:00 a.m.  Bring your own lunch and there is a £3.00 entrance fee to compete.

Note on Dress Code. We are aware that the weather is likely to be cool and cloudy on Sunday, so “Warm” is more important than “White”.

Last years results are here.

Simon Parkin Cup 2015 Result

Well, despite the heavy rain that started at 9:45, three hours before the weather forecast suggested, we did play today as promised, “come rain or shine”. We started just after 10:00 and finished about 3:00 in glorious sunshine.

After everyone had played five games, Paul Robinson emerged as a clear winner having won all five.
Former club chairman, Brian Shipman was second with four games.

John Uwins, who won the event last year, presented the Simon Parkin Cup to Paul Robinson.

Thanks to Paul for organising the “order of play” and to Ena for keeping score and everyone who turned up to play or support us.
