Wednesday 25th of June was a beautiful sunny day and the ladies enjoyed a fine day of competition for the Ladies Shield – kindly donated by Paddy Jones, a former stalwart of the club.
The shield was won by the Chairman Linda Gavigan who won four games. The Secretary, Lynne Lyle , Jean Frith and Joan Simms were all runners up with three games.

 

Former Chairman, Brian Shipman congratulated the winner. Thanks are also due to the Brian Parsons for keeping the score.

(I thought it was a bit unfair to ask Linda to do her own write up,) 

We played our first Golf Croquet Handicap League match of the season against Cheyney Croquet Club. yesterday afternoon, and won 5:4.

Delightful opponents and a close run match with just one hoop between us in the final tally.

Well done to Edna, Lynne, Betty, Janet and Brian and a big thank you to all who provided a delicious tea and also to Joan for washing up duties and Peter who arrived just in time to help pack up!

Our next match is away to West Wittering on Mon 16th June.  The team will be drawn on Saturday so if you are interested in playing and haven’t already put your name on the list, please let me know before then.

The list for the Ladies Golf Singles Trophy on Wed 25th June will be going up shortly so make sure you put your name down for what is always an enjoyable day.

p.s. Please note that there will be no club play on Wednesday 4th June because of the League match at home against Cheyney Croquet Club.

I’ve now finalised arrangements with Weston-super-Mare Croquet Club who are touring the South Coast in September.

8 of their members will visit us at 2.00 on Tues 23rd Sept and a different 8 at 2.00 on Wed 24th Sept.  It’s always nice to play new clubs and they have extended an invitation for us to visit them at some time in the future.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 2pm, other than when matches are arranged.

The lawns are playing well so for any of you who haven’t been along yet this year, do come and play soon.
