Request for technical help from Club Members

Update 07/2/2015

This experiment is being suspended for a couple of weeks while we await technical advice from our system hosts at

Members still interested, please leave a message on the blog if you can login successfully.
If you can’t please email. Thanks.

I am setting up some Private Pages on this site so that we can update everyone with the latest news about club business. This could be used for things like “Mallet Matters” or “Chairman’s Chat”, which might contain stuff we do not want everyone to read.

The new pages are currently located in a drop down menu under the Contact menu but I’ll also link to them here.
Members Blog
Committee Page

There is not much there at the moment, because we are having a number of technical issues and have not been able to test this properly because it does not seem to work very well in some internet browsers.

If you would like to help out with testing please go to the Contact Page, enter your details and ask for access in the Comment box. We will send you an invitation so that you can get into the Private Pages.

Thanks for your help.

Freezing Jungle Paradise Golf

Eight members spent a freezing Monday afternoon exploring the jungle, playing “Crazy Golf” and eating cake. Linda has promised to tell you more when I she figures out out how to edit this text.

Chichester Golf Club near Hunston provided the venue at

Can’t remember who won, but I was nearly last.

Here are a few suitably cold and crazy looking pictures courtesy of Sally.

The Fishbourne Trophy 2014 (by Brian Shipman)

The Fishbourne trophy was conducted this year in conditions which were far from ideal. Rain and a lower temperature than we have come to expect from this year’s exceptional summer.

Our grand scorer Ena Uwins did us proud and to her we must send special thanks sitting beneath her brolly beneath the awning while the rest of us enjoyed ourselves despite the weather. Could not have been comfortable or warm.

There were 15 contestants and as usual for this event after the seeded first round the event took on it’s own momentum. The lower handicap player, as usual failed to sweep the board and this is what is intended in this end of the season fun event.

The newcomers who at the start were somewhat apprehensive soon got the hang of it as the results show. The clear winner was Peter Raper who won all five of his games against opponents of various handicaps. Well Done Peter. Second was Maggie who despite being a newish member did very well against all comers. Joyce and I were equal third.

Jean Frith presented the winner with the “Fishbourne Trophy“.

John Uwins takes home the new Simon Parkin Trophy

Ten members enjoyed a fantastic day of Golf Croquet last Sunday (28/09/2014) competing for the new Simon Parkin Trophy. This was the first time the club have held a men only event and testosterone levels were running high on another beautiful late summer day.

We completed a round robin between five players on each of two courts with four players having won three of their four matches. John Uwins and Neil Humphreys were also equal with the top hoop difference of nine. They went on to play a final game which ended with John winning seven – five.

The new trophy was donated by Joyce Parkin and her daughters Kate and Emma, in memory of Simon who passed away in June this year after being ill for some months. Simon was a lovely man and an enthusiastic croquet player who is much missed at the club.

Joyce and her family came along to watch the end of play and Joyce presented the trophy to the winner.

Congratulations also to Neil as runner up and Paul Robinson and Brian Parsons who narrowly missed the cut for the final.

Thanks also to all the ladies who came along to support us and especially Ena Uwins who acted as scorer.

Weston-super-Mare visit

On Tuesday and Wednesday, this week, we welcomed the Weston-super-Mare Croquet Club as part of their croquet tour. We have just received the following email from their Chairman, Doug Norfolk.

Dear Linda,
As chairman of our club I would like to thank you and your members for the kindness shown to us during our visit to you as part of our tour. We particularly liked the idea of mixing the clubs for playing doubles it was new to us and very enjoyable. An item of conversation on arriving back at Warner’s by each party was the cakes and it was a close run thing which was favourite between the ginger and the flap jacks. Again I personally would like to thank you for allowing us to visit your club and for your warm hospitality and as I said if a group of your members wished to wander afar for a game of croquet you will always be welcomed at our club, we would love to see you.
My kindest Regards
Doug Norfolk

Thank you Doug for your comments. The players on our side would also like to say how much we also enjoyed the two days of very enjoyable croquet… not to mention the cake!

We’ve also had a look at your web-site at and hope to see you there some time.
